Exploring in Northern Nevada

A very short drive from Reno is the Carson River Ranches and the Fort Churchill State Park. Recreation available to all of us is horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, bird watching, camping and canoeing as well as canoe camping along the river are just some of the popular activities along the Carson River. Primitive trails have been constructed from Highway 95A south of Buckland Station to the Overlook Access Area. Trails will lead you from the Orchard Area to the campground at Fort Churchill. Fort Churchill State Historic Park acquired three historic ranches along nine miles of the Carson River in 1994. The "Ranches" connect Fort Churchill with Lahontan State Recreation Area, creating one of the largest publicly accessible river corridors in Nevada. A variety of recreational opportunities, as well as historic sites, make this an ideal area in which to explore. Information provided by the Division of State Parks.
