Nevada Day, The History

Every year, Nevadans celebrate Nevada Day and some lucky enough to have the day off of work or school. So what is Nevada Day and how did it begin? Let's walk down history lane a bit ...

Nevada Day marks the day that Nevada was admitted to the Union, or became a state. The official date was October 31, 1864. Today, Nevada Day is officially celebrated on the last Friday of October, thanks to voters and legislature coming together in 1999 to change the date in which the holiday is observed.

This year, Nevada Day is celebrated on October 26. It is a state holiday, so most schools, libraries, banks, credit union Including One Nevada) and state offices are closed on this day. The post office remains open.
